Starting a New Journey

December 7th…the day my world was turned upside down.

I woke up the morning of December 7th excited for what was to come. Friends were visiting from Canada and other friends were helping me prep for my blow-out holiday party scheduled the next day. Then the phone rang. It was my manager telling me I had been let go.

Shock. Fear. Resignation. Relief.

I have worked full time since I was 16 years old. In all that time I have never been laid off. The longest I have been unemployed was about 6 months around my daughter’s birth. I had worked hard to earn a solid reputation, to rise to my level, and, like a house of cards, it was blown over in an instant.

Of course my first priority was revenue, and I will write about that adventure in a later blog.

Beyond my immediate needs there was this big question mark looming in the future. I am a cook, traveler, writer, photographer, dancer. I can problem solve, organize, plan, advise, mentor. So I decided to put lots of feelers out there in a lot of different directions. I decided to see where the universe would take me.

A friend said they loved hearing my stories and my travel photos. Another friend said they love both my travel advice and my relationship advice. One friend said my whole life is an adventure. Another said they would love to follow a chronological account of this transitional time of my life and where it will lead.

So here I am world.

Unemployed. Figuring things out. Starting new adventures.

Follow my progression under My Journey tab or stick to the travel & leisure as I reach for new horizons. I hope you will join me for the Adventures of an Independent Woman.
